Glory is one great war movie that not many have watched. It is the true story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and stars Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, and Denzel Washington. This Infantry was actually the first infantry that was made up of African-American soldiers. The movie starts and focusses on the early days of this infantry, their training and then their part in the Civil War. The movie touches the sensitive issue of racism by pointing out some common practices of that time. The dark toned soldiers were paid less than fair skin soldiers, were provided sub-standard artillery etc. However, the movie picks only few portion from the original history but perfectly portrays the courage and heroism by the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry showed and their contribution in the Civil War.

7. Grave of the Fireflies

Grave of the Fireflies is a special entry to the list. It is an animated movie that I am sure not many of you would have watched. The movie shows the dirty and ugly reality of the wars and the tragedies hidden behind them.

Grave of the Fireflies is a story about two siblings that were taken away from the home and were forced to live with their aunt. The aunt abuses them and ultimately they are forced to live on the streets and to survive on whatever they can find by begging. Soon the war starts and then the movie turns even more intense. It is very hard to see what a war can do to a beautiful relationship.

8. Paths of Glory

Paths of Glory is one of the best films if you wish to get an idea about the politics behind World War I. The first World War was a lot more imperialistic, fought for national supremacy, and because of which millions of soldiers and people were forced into a bloodshed against other nation’s soldiers. The movie focuses on the unwillingness of the officers and soldiers who were forced into this war and to their deaths. This movie by Stanley Kubrick throws light at the political bureaucracy behind the war. If you love war movies with political touch, Paths of Glory is one of the best you can find.

9. Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket is another masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick and is a war movie which presents two different scenarios in a single film. The first half of the movie focuses on a boot camp where the camp sergeants abuse an underperforming recruit resulting in their death. The first half shows the real face how the soldiers are treated inhumanly so that they can fight for the country. The second half, on the other hand, the second half of the movie is the journey of Private Joker through city and jungles on Vietnam.

10. All Quiet on the Western Front

kinopoisk.ru

Well, this is a very old movie, released in 1930. All Quiet on the West Front focuses on small children who are alluded to enlist their names for fighting in World War I. The high school teacher who convinces them, shows them a vision of appreciation, patriotism and heroism and the movie later show us how different things are in real life. However, there were few movies that really impressed the masses and here in this list of Best Movies available on MovieBox, we have tried to come up with the most popular movies of the current year that were really good to watch.

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is the third part of the superhero epic in which we see various superheroes taking sides and fighting among themselves. The two sides are Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) who fight over some ideological differences. The story starts with a mission including new Avengers team and lead by Captain America which results in several casualties. Thus the UN asks Avengers to sign a deal where they need to take permissions from UN panel before taking any action. Tony Stark feels guilty about this loss and forces the Captain to sign the deal. Captain America, on the other hand, the free Avengers team will then be corrupted by politics and bureaucracy. Deadpool

Deadpool came as a surprise in the starting of the year. It was a different kind of superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson and Deadpool. Unlike other superheroes, who are always serious, crying and tensed about their missions, Deadpool is a chilled out, naughty, humorous and extraordinary superhero. The movie starts when Wade learns that he has terminal cancer and agrees to participate in a secret experiment that might cure his disease. However, the experiment is way more torturous than he thought and leaves him with burnt irreparable skin and advanced healing powers. Arrival focuses on two people, a theoretical physicist (Jeremy Renner) and a linguist (Amy Adams) finding a way to communicate with the mysterious aliens who have planted their huge ships at various places around the globe. The thrilling part is that they do not know whether the aliens are the threat to the world or not. Arrival also has Michael Stahlberg and Forest Whitaker as supporting actors and has been directed by Denis Villeneuve.

The Jungle Book (2016)

The new version of Jungle Book released this year is a re-imitation of tales by Rudyard Kipling. The director of the movie, Jon Favreau has made use of spectacular graphics as well as CGI to produce a whole community of real looking animals that stay around Mowgli (Neel Sethi), the boy who was raised up in Jungle in between the animals by a pack of wolves. However, the boy is hunted by a tiger names Sher Khan (Idris Elba) who wants to kill the child. However, the increasing danger for Mowgli forces his guardian Bagheera (ben Kingsley) to take him out of the jungle to the ‘man village’ where he can stay safely away from Sher Khan. While Bagheera takes him to the village, Mowgli meets a lazy bear named Baloo (Bill Murray). Mowgli helps him get honey and they become friends. Also in between, Mowgli saves an elephants’ child by getting him out of the pit. When Bagheera tell Baloo that he needs to let Mowgli go, Mowgli is kidnapped by the Bandar-log. The king of the Bandar-log, King Louie (Christopher Walken) wants Mowgli to summon “the red flower” or fire for him. However, he escapes and learns that Sher Khan has killed Akela. Mowgli runs in anger towards the village and brings back the red fire to kill Sher Khan. In this attempt, he sets the forest on fire by mistake. But in the year 1942, all those Krakow’s Jews were transferred to Plaszow Forced Labor Camp where they spent their time under the cruel Commandant Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes). Goeth is an alcoholic officer who kills Jews for fun. However, Schindler on the other hand shifts to manufacturing ammunitions and realizes that his company is now the only thing that is saving the Jew workers from being send to the death camp. After realizing that, Oskar starts asking for more and more workers for his factory and at the same time keeps on bribing the officials to keep the Jew workers on the working list. While the war ends and Germany falls, Schindler loses all his fortune as saves only 1100 people from getting killed. The movie won 7 Academy Awards out of 12 for which it was nominated. The Imitation Game

The Imitation Game is a movie based on a true story that remained hidden from the world for a long time. The movie starts with a brilliant Mathematics professor in Cambridge University, Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) being approached by British Government to work in a team because he is brilliant at solving puzzles. Alan is hired and works with a team on a secret project with a single aim, to break the Nazi’s communication machine called Enigma’s code. Enigma’s code is almost impossible to crack because it is recorded by the Nazi soldiers every day. So, even if the figure out the code somehow one day, it will turn obsolete the next day. Also, there are more than 159,000,000,000,000,000,000 combinations possible for a given code, which is impossible to go through every day. However, on one hand the whole team works together to analyse and try to break the code every day, Alan on the other hand works on building a machine which works on some kind of artificial intelligence which he believes won’t require a code on daily basis to break the message, but will be able to solve any kind of code immediately. However, with the addition of Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), the behaviour of the team towards Alan and Alan’s behaviour towards others is hugely improved. During a party, Alan gets an idea that changes their entire life. Also, it is really awesome to see how a group of people control and end one of the biggest war the earth has ever seen. The Imitation Game is directed by Morten Tyldum and won the Academy Award for the best writing adapted screenplay as well.
